The Ancient Vampires
The King and the Queen[/color]
According to the ancient legends, the history of the vampires goes back to the 4 millennium B.C. Its roots lie in Egypt, or Kemet, as it was called at that time. The Legend of the Twins maintains that the King and the Queen, who had planned to obliterate the custom of flesh eating, took prisoner two witches from a tribe living at the foot of the Mount Carmel (the territory of Palestine), aiming to discover their secrets. The witches' explanations failed to satisfy the sovereigns, and they severely tortured the sisters. But an evil spirit, seeking vengeance, came after the offenders and possessed the Queen of Kemet. By accident the Queen's material body merged with the core of the spirit. It resulted in the creation of a new being feeding on blood and reproducing itself by the transmission of its own blood to a person on the verge of death. The Queen made the King a vampire, and these were the Mother and Father or all the blood drinkers.
The First Brood
The twin sisters, witches turned vampires by their follower from the King's people (later these three became known as the First Brood), attempted uprisal against the King and the Queen, which resulted in a cruel punishment of the twins. This legend seems closer to the truth then all the others, mostly based on the worship of Osiris and Isis. Nevertheless, it has been confirmed that all attempts to harm the Queen eventually led to destruction or grave injuries of all other vampires.

Children of the Millennia
Virtually from the start the vampirism had a touch of religion. The vampires were considered gods, their followers made to them human sacrifices. The ability to read minds brought them the fame of just judges. However, as the gods increased in numbers, they inevitably started struggle for power, their interests parted and wars broke out. The King and the Queen were captured and subsequently used to extract the original blood to increase other vampires' powers. Thus the King and the Queen fell into a coma-like state.
The vampires went east to Asia where they founded blood worships, and north to Europe, where were worshipped as gods of the wood. In the 1st century B.C., when old legends lost their significance, the Keeper put the King and the Queen in the sun. As a result, the most of the gods perished, the rest were badly burnt. One of the gods turned the Roman Marius into a vampire. Marius became the new Keeper and carried this burden up to the end of the 20th century.

The Roman Coven
The Children of Darkness
The vampires created at the dawn of christianity started to form covens. They believed in Christ and pursued satanism; among their celestial goals were the punishment of mortals and destruction of heretic vampires. The Coven Leader executed absolute, almost unlimited power. In this period the Dark Laws, Dark Ways and Dark Blessings were born. According to the Dark Laws, if mortals carried Holy Symbols, they were considered untouchable; this fact is the source of the popular myth that vampires cannot stand crosses and other Christian signs.
The Roman Coven, positioned within the immediate distance of the Roman Catholic Church, became the most influential coven. In 1499 the Roman Coven under Santino's guidance hunted down Marius the Keeper, the outcast, attempted to burn him and nearly succeeded. After Santino left his children in 1700, the Roman Coven lost its former authority.
Santino Alessandra Armand
The Paris Coven
Les Innocents
This medieval cemetery was the lair of the Paris coven. In early 16 century Armand, who supported Santino's ideas, was appointed the Coven Leader. Of special notice is the fact that these Children of Darkness were the last Western European coven to renounce the ways and traditions of the Dark Ages. After the young vampire Lestat had been captured and planted doubts among the Armand's allies, the latter burnt down the coven and released the few survivors of the Dark Vows.

The Lineage of Magnus
The alchemist Magnus, who had stolen the secrets of the vampires and never respected the Dark Ways, inhabited a tower in the outskirts of Paris. In late 18 century he decided to go into the fire and spent a lot of time choosing his heir. Eventually he selected Lestat de Valois, a young promising actor. Magnus burnt himself and left Lestat a legacy consisting of his tower and treasures.
Lestat and his mother Gabrielle, whom he soon turned into a vampire, played a fatal role in the fate of the Paris coven. Free of superstitions and prejudices, they showed the Children of Darkness the gap between their obsolete beliefs and the real life. Lestat grants them the deed to his theater, which is soon to become the notorious Theatre des Vampires.

Theatre des Vampires
The Theatre des Vampires was established in 1780 by the violin player Nicolas de Lenfent. Those vampires who survived the destruction of the Paris Coven joined the theatre, as well as Armand, their leader. They staged allegorical plays based around vampires and werewolves. The vampires' preternatural gifts made the theatre famous all across Europe. As far as we know, the Theatre des Vampires was the first open, uncovered coven. This establishment soon became extremely popular among mortals, as well as vampires, who came to join the theatre from all the corners of Europe. However, to become a player in the Theatre was by no means easy, because they carefully chose their companions and guarded their numbers.
After Nicolas went into the fire in 1789, the power over the Theatre was fully assigned to Armand.

The New World Vampire
New Orleans Vampires
In late 18 century the vampire Lestat became one of the first vampires to cross the Atlantic. He settled down in the French colony of Louisiana. Thus he received almost unlimited territory and freedom. In his obsessive desire to live as close to human life as possible, he created a vampire child. As far as we know, at that time Lestat and his fledglings remained the only immortals in this area.
In the second half of the 19 century the vampires started their mass migration to America and, having shaken off the burden of the old ways, began to chaotically make fledglings. Thus, the center of the vampire population shifted to the United States.

Theatre des Vampires
In the 19 century Armand remained the last member of the original Theatre des Vampires. The Dark Ways became history; the new players, on the contrary, thrived in the midst of modern world.
This coven was destroyed beyond repair in 1862 by the vampire Louis de Point du Lac, who burnt down the Theatre seeking revenge for his companion Claudia, executed by the Paris vampires.

20th Century
In the 20 century we observe a wide variety in the types of vampire organization: the elder vampires continue to exist in covens, the younger ones prefer more modern patterns, such as wandering bands and groups of rogues. Still preserved are such phenomena as lone vampires or modern fledglings made by the ancient vampires.
The Vampire Connection
The important novelty was the establishment of the Vampire Connection in order to facilitate information exchange. It is a chain of vampire bars where gather mortal customers as well as vampires. The best known establishments are Dr. Polidori in London, Lamia in Paris, Bela Lugosi in LA, Carmilla and Lord Ruthven in New York and Dracula's Daughter in San-Francisco.

Vampires and Mortals
One of the basic rules of the order is to avoid immediate contacts with the vampires at all costs. It is not only the question of danger arousing from careful protection of vampire secrets. Most cases where mortals got in touch with the vampires at their own will, even if the immortals were full of best intentions, had a fatal outcome. Some vampires tend to fall in love with humans; some cases are registered when vampires became protectors of certain mortals. In this situation, however, mortals run greater risks from the part of other vampires, and, as a rule, such cases come to a bitter end.
Besides, vampires are also known to drive innocent and unprepared mortals mad.
Bianca Solderini

Played an important role in Armand's story for she saved his life after he had been mortally wounded during a duel. Later she learnt the secret of Marius and Armand as the latter had mysteriously escaped death, and sometimes took part in their night escapades.
Outcome: Transformed into a vampire by Marius after Santino's attack.

Babette Freniere
Details of the encounter: Had never met Louis before her brother was killed, but aroused his interest shortly before the brother's death. Louis often secretly visited Babette and was the first to bring her the fatal news. From that moment on he became her guardian angel and gave her precious advice regarding the plantation, thus strengthening the financial situation of the family and their positions in the society. On the day of the slave rebellion and fire at Point du Lac Louis and Lestat came to Babette to seek shelter. She satisfied their wish, but guessed that Louis was the one who had looked after her for all these years, and, considering that he had come from the Devil, tried to destroy him.
Outcome: After Louis and Lestat had escaped, Babette never met them again. It was rumored that she made numerous attempts to find Louis in the ruins of Point du Lac; it is a fact that she died young after having lost her reason.
Morgan
Details of the encounter: Louis met Morgan during his quest for other vampires, when Claudia and he stopped to spend a night in the same village. Morgan took Louis for a mortal and told him his story, thus impressing him a lot. Morgan was later captured by the unknown vampire, but Louis saved him.
Outcome: Died within minutes after Louis had saved him, killed by Claudia.
Gretchen
Details of the encounter: Met Lestat in Georgetown when he was dying from a pneumonia after he had temporarily entered the body of a mortal man. She nursed Lestat and became intimate with him. In him she found the first and the last man of her life. When they were parting, Lestat promised her to come back in his true body. Gretchen returned to the mission believing that Lestat was mad.
Outcome: After Lestat had recovered his body and come to her as the man whom she had saved in Georgetown, Gretchen lost her reason and cut her wrists.
Raglan James
Details of the encounter: Learnt about Lestat's interest in mortal life and reached an agreement with him. According to this agreement, Lestat was to switch bodies with Raglan James. Entered Lestat's body and his thefts and fraud took on a larger scale.
Outcome: After David Talbot drove him out of Lestat's body, entered David's body and attempted to receive the Dark Gist as David Talbot. Was killed by Lestat when the latter sensed he was being deceived.
