So I have FINALLY started the Laurell K. Hamilton vampire series... and it damn well took me long enough to do it! LoL! Ever since her first Anita Blake vampire hunter book "Guilty Pleasures" came out, I have always heard wonderful things about the series from people who have read it.
About 2 weeks ago I started the series, and am now on book 8 of the so far 12 book series... and I LOVE it. While it certainly is not what I was expecting when I started reading the series, it has certainly caught my attention and I can't imagine what kept me from reading it for so long.
I love the fact that almost EVERY mythical creature you could ever think of (fairies, dragons, trolls, all forms of lycanthropes [not just limited to werewolves], etc) actually exist. The main vampire Jean-Claude is fucking amazing, and Anita Blake is such a cynical bitch, but she's got spunk and she kicks ass so you can't help but love her.
I can't wait to finish the 12 books, and hope and pray for more to come. If you haven't read the series yet, please do, cuz if you love vampires and all of the other "otherworldly" stuff, then you can't help but love these books. The only problem with the series is that you kinda have to read the books in order, because, like Anne Rice's, each book recalls something from the previous ones, and each one continues where its predecessor left off. So here is the list, in order:
1. Guilty Pleasures
2. The Laughing Corpse
3. Circus of the Damned (So far my favorite)
4. The Lunatic Cafe
5. Bloody Bones (So far my least favorite)
6. The Killing Dance (So far my next favorite)
7. Burnt Offerings
8. Blue Moon
9. Obsidian Butterfly
10. Narcissus in Chains
11. Cerulean Sins
12. Incubus Dreams
So enjoy, and happy reading!!!

P.S. If you’ve read the series, or at least the first couple of books, what did you think of them?
